Blanca Arias (1998) is a visual artist whose working methods go from mixed media to installation, including performance and video.
One of her current interests is the recuperation of (mainly classical) antiquity through its myths and philosophy so as to get to the roots of Occidental thought and be able to deconstruct some of its pillars. With this, she explores diverse ways by which the representation of the female experience has changed over the years (and, consequently, the development of the construction of gender) in order to reclaim self-expression through sexuality and pleasure.
On the other hand, Blanca frequently uses her pieces as an approach to the relationship between art and life. This is a manifestation of the affinity to symbolic politics, not only using her projects as a mean of communication of ideas but also to celebrate personal growth and love to the often ignored process. Despite Blanca started painting and drawing and has never stopped doing so, she feels much more attracted to installation and performance, seeing that we are daily submitted to visual overstimulation and these mediums can operate as a complement to virtual reality, which she doesn’t want to fight but learn more sustainable ways to live with.
